Recreation

Hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, camping, swimming, BACC=Barron Area Community Center, skiing, snowmobiling, etc.

Nestled in one of the most scenic areas in the Wisconsin northwoods, Barron County is known for its water activities, like fishing and boating. Excellent panfishing has made the area famous. Blue gill, crappie and trout for the fly fisherman are what most seek, however, there are enough northerns, musky, walleye and both large and small mouth bass to satisfy the dedicated angler.

Snowmobiling in Wisconsin

The Blue Hills lie on the eastern side of Barron County. A former mountain range that reached 20,000 feet - older and taller than both the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains -- the Blue Hills are named for their smoky appearance. As the glaciers moved across northwestern Wisconsin, their peaks were rounded off and the last to the massive glaciers stopped at the foot of the Blue Hills. Today these hills offer superb snowmobiling, nordic and alpine skiing.
