County, population 45,000, is located in northwestern Wisconsin.
This ideal location is 35 miles north of Eau Claire, 75 miles northeast
of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, 100 miles south of Duluth and
Superior, and 375 miles northwest of Chicago.
Major
highways serving Barron County include US Hwys 8, 48, 53, and 63.
Highway 53 is a four-lane divided highway that connects to Interstate
94 in Eau Claire.

The Barron County
Economic Development Department provides economic growth
and stability in Barron County, WI by supporting
existing businesses, relocating businesses to the county
and providing technical assistance to start-up
businesses; serves as liaison between public and private
economic development and planning organizations;
recommends policies to County government that support
the achievement of planned economic goals for all
sectors of the County.
In addition to
providing a step-by-step program to assist in business
start-up projects, the BCEDC also provides business plan
counseling, site location, financial planning and
packaging, product development, marketing and
advertising, web design and eCommerce assistance.
The BCEDC is a link
to county, city, state and federal economic development
programs that addresses the issues of retaining jobs and
expanding the job market throughout the county. The
BCEDC provides such technical assistance in the
retention and expansion activities of the county’s
existing businesses, through training and educational
seminars, business retention and expansion surveys,
labor market studies and annual and one-on-one personal
counseling with businesses.
